Detail magazine features Verstas Architects’ Kaupunkimökki in issue 5/2013 on the theme Simple and Complex.

ARK magazine issue 1/2013 features a positive review of Saunalahti school and a story on the new office and housing blocks on Töölönlahti including Verstas’ block 2018.

Saunalahti school is also featured on Betoni magazine 1/2013.

Verstas’ entry “Retki” receives an honorary mention in the Hämeenkyrö school and kindrgarten competition.

Verstas’ entry ‘Vaaksa’ shared the 3rd prize in the competition for Aurinkokivi school in Vantaa.

Saunalahti school received an honorary mention in Vuoden Betonirakenne 2012 – award for the Concrete Structure of the Year in Finland. The annual award has been given by the associaton for the Finnish Concrete Industry since 1970. Photo from the dining hall balcony by Jussi Tiainen.

“Tiedonjyviä” – an artwork by Maija Louekari has been installed on the walls of Saunalahti school. 19 birds (including the owl) have perched on the yellow gallery wall, with a few more in other parts of the school.

VERSTAS wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Verstas team enjoyed snowy weather on the Christmas trip to Turku. Among the highlights were Paimio Sanatorium, Erik Bryggman’s Villa Solin, St. Henry’s Ecumenical Chapel and snowball fight at the Hirvensalo school site (pictured).

Verstas was awarded an honourable mention in the architectural competition for the world-class wooden city quarter “Wood City” to be built in the Jätkäsaari district of Helsinki. Six top Finnish architecture firms were invited to take part in the competition. Verstas’ entry “Kanto” one of the best two going through to the second phase.

Verstas wins the invited competition for Hirvensalo school in Turku. The building is scheduled for completion in 2016.

Saunalahti school will be open for visitors as part of this years Open House Helsinki event on next Friday, September 14th. The tour starts at 3pm at the yard side main entrance. Detailed information on Open House Helsinki.
